Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.

Canada's MLB team reached their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, our country," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."

George Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, making him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I'd choose in that situation other than George Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their performance this season.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he added.

The Blue Jays won the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
