The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
