The goalkeeper Had little to do to perform during the opening 45 until called into action by Arbër Hoxha’s curling effort. His sliding tackle on Qazim Laci showed his game intelligence. Six out of ten

Jarell Quansah Challenged by the opposition's main danger in Hoxha. Played in a central role to begin with then shifted to the flank after a teammate came on. 7/10

John Stones Pushed into midfield on the ball, something he's known for in the past. On occasion was too casual when carrying play and the approach discontinued by the interval. 6

Dan Burn A constant threat from dead balls, as always, but may be another option to his teammate in the backline as opposed to paired with him. A careless ball later in the match came close to a goal for the visitors. Six

The young full-back A further composed showing by the youngster after his debut against another side. Saka did not capitalize on full advantage of a clever touch behind the Albania defence. The role is his to lose so soon. 7

Adam Wharton His maiden beginning in an England shirt. Somewhat sloppy in possession though his inswinging corners were a threat. An effective pace-controller available to the boss to have versus defensive opponents. Booked for a poorly timed foul. 6/10

The midfielder Deliveries from corners and free-kicks caused problems. Enjoyed freedom to drift in left midfield but was offside as the pass came with a chance to score. Given a merited rest after an hour. Six

The star midfielder Functioned in a high role on the right and also put in the hard yards. Demonstrated moments of class but scuffed an effort over. Replaced late on by a teammate, his competition, following a yellow card. Seven

The winger Had England’s best chance in the opening period, his effort well saved from the opposing goalkeeper. With a teammate hanging back, it fell to him to provide width on the right yet his deliveries into the box varied in quality. Taken off late in the match. 6

The captain The match-winner with his 77th and 78th strikes in an England shirt. The opener a typical poacher’s finish and the second a superb header following a clever run from his marker. Now 32, his form is unwavering and the side are strong contenders next summer with him leading the line. Eight

The attacker Found it tough to influence play out wide. Had a good opening after being played in from a teammate yet the keeper denied him. His replacement made much more of effect in his place. Five
