Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Problems.

'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the playing area early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell at the MCG.

The England team stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle at the SCG gets underway this coming Sunday.

The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three England players who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he came back on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, on the final ball of his spell, he bowled a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
