The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."

The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

The drama launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
