Brian Eno Urges Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.

A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.

An Opportunity for Support and an "Surprise Victory"

Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.

“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”

Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.

“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”

Recording Origins and Featured Artists

The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.

The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby includes a selection of acclaimed names from the industry. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for humanitarian aid.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The track features a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.

The group managing the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“There is no a specific target,” a representative commented. “We aim for whatever we can get. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”

The reality in the area was noted for its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings reportedly destroyed or damaged.

“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is above all raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”

The song is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
