The Gunners' boss remains confident that his team can persist in handling with injury setbacks following confirming that forward Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The German forward has been absent since the summer due to knee surgery. Initially expected to return at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when stepping up his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update creates a dilemma for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal playing out of position last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is available after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Remain

More doubts surround centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the weekend encounter. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably keep their places in central defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the £250m spend on new players in the last transfer window has resulted in a far better place to navigate such absences.

Greater Options Vital for Title Challenge

Questioned if a larger pool of players was benefiting their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Absolutely, because this season has been worse in the attacking line, and now the problems with the backline,” he continued.

“We learned from the past that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to perform various functions if we are to fight at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Star

Commenting on the complication previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his keenness to have him back. “The team is keen to have him. I mean, Havertz is someone that, for me, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his character, his personality. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”
